IDEAS INC – EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Ideas Inc is a non-profit organization that helps entrepreneurs from all backgrounds and levels of experience start and grow their businesses. Since 2007, Ideas Inc’s programs, services, and team members have supported hundreds of business owners to achieve their goals and grow Saskatoon’s economic impact. We’re pleased to welcome a new Executive Director who will bring fresh ideas, energy, and perspective to the organization.
ROLE
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for providing leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight for Ideas Inc and its associated initiatives, including School for Startups and Gather Local Market.
The Executive Director serves as the face of the organization and regularly interacts with and is expected to maintain productive, professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders including, but not limited to the Board of Directors, staff, community partners, business owners, members of the media, orders of government, and community members.
The Executive Director will embody the key values of Ideas Inc: mentorship, supporting entrepreneurs, and community building.
Key areas of responsibility include:
- Program and service delivery: Oversees design, marketing, promotion, delivery, and quality of programs and services.
- Fiscal management: Recommends annual budget for Board approval and prudently manages resources within budget guidelines according to current laws and regulations.
- Human resources management: Effectively manages human resources according to policies and procedures conforming to current laws and regulations.
- Community and public relations: Ensures the organization’s mission, programs, products, and services are consistently and positively represented in the community.
- Fundraising: Manages fundraising planning and implementation, including identifying resource requirements, researching funding sources, establishing strategies to approach funders, submitting proposals, and administering fundraising records and documentation.
- Startup business attraction and management: Manages the attraction, placement, service delivery, event organization, and lease agreements for tenants.
- Partnership development: Manages attraction, definition, development, and retention of strategic community partners, establishing strategies to engage partners in programming that will benefit Ideas Inc clients.
- Facilities management and oversight: Oversees the operations and maintenance of facilities, ensuring lease conditions and systems are up to date and well maintained.
- Board administration and support: Supports operations and administration of the Board of Directors by facilitating regular Board meetings, advising and informing Board members, serving as the liaison between Board and staff, and supporting Board evaluations of the Executive Director.
- Gather Local Market: Provides leadership management for all business and operational functions related to Gather Local Market, including working with Gather Local Market’s Operations Manager to ensure productive vendor relationships.
- Personnel: Oversees Ideas Inc and Gather Local Market employees.
POSITION DETAILS
- Start date: Flexible, targeting mid to late July 2024
- Term: Permanent full-time
- Salary range: $85,000 – $105,000, with potential for a discretionary annual performance bonus of up to 10% of base salary
- Vacation entitlements: 4 weeks
- Benefits: Subject to satisfaction of minimum working weeks for purposes of Ideas Inc insurance policies, full health benefits in accordance with current plan
REQUIREMENTS
Ideal candidates will bring:
- Post-secondary training in a relevant field
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in a management and leadership role
- Experience with non-profit financial management and budgeting
- Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to motivate and lead a team
Experience working with start-up businesses is considered an asset.
